What Happens in Vegas...

I have a little bone to pick with the Vegas people.  What happens in Vegas, doesn't always stay in Vegas.   Last week I attended RTNDA @ NAB - a conference for news managers at ye old television stations.  It was a real learning experience.

Most of the talk was about Web 2.0 and how TV stations need to react to embrace bloggers and learn how to co-exist with them.  But that's not the reason I'm posting.  While in Vegas I picked up one heck of a cold.  On my return flight I sat in my seat wishing someone would put me out of my misery.  I almost kicked it by the time I had to return to work.  Now I have an infected lymph node and the lower right side of my face has a lump the size of a peach.

At least I came home with most of the cash I took out to gamble with.  Hung out with former 6 News anchor/reporter Aaron Drawhorn.  We hit the strip Saturday night and I quickly went up $100.  Gave me enough money to play with the rest of the week.

Anyway... It's now a week later from when I really started to feel bad and I still have a cough, and I have to get ready for another presentation in Dallas this weekend.  Hopefully Dallas won't give me any of its germs.

Catching Up...

It's like I got to set a reminder to blog.  There's always stuff I want to write about, but I always get sidetracked.  Of course, that means I'm going to throw a whole lot of stuff into this post.

Viva Las Vegas...
Friday afternoon I'll be leaving for Las Vegas. Next week is the RTNDA@NAB conference. It going to be a lot of work and hopefully a lot of fun - and I'm not even talking about the gambling.  Here's why ... NAB like the Consumer Electronics Show, but more specialized for TV/Radio folks.  I'll get to check out some of the latest and greatest gear in the broadcast industry.  For me it will be like window shopping at Christmas.  All the stuff I wish I could afford to buy.

The other part is the actual conference stuff.  This year RTNDA is focusing a lot of energy on the web and that's the main reason why I'm going.  There will be lots of discussion on what's next for local TV web sites and how we'll be able to survive in a market where you the viewer/user have millions of choices to choose from.  The goal is to bring back ideas that will help make KRISTV.COM much better.

Spotted is here!
Yesterday, we quietly BETA launched Spotted, our new community photo gallery.  It's a little different than our Coppermine gallery, but I think in the long run our new gallery will be much better.  We're still working on migrating our old galleries to the new one; hopefully it will get done sooner than later.

Crosstown Commons - oh please build it!
Yesterday, 6 News covered the plans for a new lifestyle mall at Crosstown and Holly.  I really hope the community doesn't screw this one up.  Corpus Christi is desperately in need of a shopping destination.  Padre Staples just doesn't cut it when it comes to what a regional "destination" mall should be.
